Business of Film Master Class
Join us for a Master Class with Joan Darling. Joan Darling is a groundbreaking actress and director who was one of the first women to occupy the director’s chair in series television.
This is a hand-on workshop open to 8 participant directors and 25 observers. Joan will work with these directors on specific techniques in directing for performance in many situations and narrate for the observers how these techniques work and how to get great performance.
There will be a question and answer session at the end of the day.
Joan Darling’s first directorial job was for the pilot of the hit ’70s TV series Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (1976) and she directed several of the series’ episodes. She became one of the first female TV directors to be steadily employed on various series, and directed many episodes of M*A*S*H (1972), the The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970) show and The Bob Newhart Show (1972). She made her film debut in 1977 with the critically acclaimed but financially unsuccessful First Love (1977), and has made several theatrical and made-for-TV movies since then.
