Become a Volunteer Today

SWAMP is dedicated to empowering independent filmmakers and enriching Houston’s film community through education, mentorship, and hands-on experiences. From special screenings and workshops to summer camps and industry events, we create opportunities for storytellers to learn, collaborate, and grow.

Our volunteers are at the heart of this mission. Whether you’re a film enthusiast, student, or industry professional, your time and talents help bring these programs to life. No experience is needed—just a passion for film and community engagement!

How You Can Help:

• Assist with special events and workshops

• Greet guests and help with event logistics

• Capture moments through social media and photography

• Support setup and breakdown for screenings and panels

As a thank-you, volunteers receive event discounts and gain behind-the-scenes access to Houston’s thriving film scene.

Join us and be part of a movement that uplifts local filmmakers and connects audiences through the power of storytelling!

Why Volunteers Make SWAMP Possible

The Southwest Alternate Media Project was founded in 1977 with the vision that executive level volunteers, student volunteers, youth volunteers, film enthusiast volunteers, ALL VOLUNTEERS would be the engine that made the “Project” work.

Dominique de Menil was the founding promoter of this media project, in collaboration with James Blue who believed that media would one day be the voice for the voiceless.

Today we continue with that same vision, and we depend on believers and activists like you to contribute to our work. Yes, the Southwest Alternate Media Project is run by volunteers like you.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
– Margaret Mead
